What is acupuncture?

Recognised by the World Health Organisation, acupuncture is an ancient system of Chinese healthcare, used to treat people for a wide range of conditions. Focus is on the individual, and all symptoms are seen in relation to each other. Diagnosis involves careful attention to the patient’s current concerns and any underlying causes of imbalance.

Based on traditional belief, acupuncturists are trained to use subtle diagnostic techniques that have been developed and refined for centuries.

Illness and pain occur when the body’s vital energy, cannot flow freely. There can be many reasons for this: emotional and physical stress, poor nutrition, infection and injuries are among the most common.

What happens?

At your first session your practitioner will take a full medical case history as well as enquire about your current situation. They will also take your pulse (on both wrists), look at your tongue and may carry out other examinations. They will then determine a Chinese Medicine diagnosis and a treatment plan. By inserting ultra-fine sterile needles into specific acupuncture points, a traditional acupuncturist seeks to re-establish the free flow of energy to restore balance and trigger the body’s natural healing response, promoting physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
