What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is solution-focused psychotherapy that utilises hypnosis to achieve results much faster than traditional psychotherapy. In hypnotherapy, the trance state is used both for relaxation and to focus the client’s mind on making changes to subconscious thought processes, helping them to achieve better moods, more balanced and appropriate perceptions and a positive attitude.

Hypnosis means inducing a trance state, and is done either by a hypnotist or by oneself, which is called self-hypnosis. Hypnosis is a state in which the conscious mind is relaxed and focused, and hence is not blocking access to the subconscious mind. Hypnosis has been used since ancient times, to achieve changes in mood, perception and ways of thinking.

Trance is a natural state in which the mind reduces conscious awareness to only what is relevant to the current situation, either for relaxation or focusing the mind. This happens when we are falling asleep, daydreaming or focusing our attention. It can mean letting go of conscious awareness of all our senses, or just those aspects which serve as a distraction from our current activity. The subconscious mind remains aware of what is happening around us and alerts us to anything we need to be aware of, so that we can react.

What hypnotherapy can do for you

Through hypnotherapy you gain an awareness of the unconscious thought patterns that increase feelings of stress and anxiety, decrease self-confidence, motivation and energy and sabotage the best of intentions.

In the deeply-relaxed hypnotic state you can replace these unconscious thought patterns with ones that strengthen confidence, self-control and wellbeing. This means that hypnotherapy can help with problems that seriously affect everyday life and equally with preparing to deal with specific situations in the best way.
