What is Pilates?
Pilates is a movement system based on 6 key principles: Centering, Concentration, Control, Precision, Breath & Flow.
Created by Joseph Pilates to enhance and support the movement of professional boxers and ballerinas, the Pilates Method is now recognised all around the world for its restorative and rehabilitative properties.
Benefits of Pilates:
- Improves posture and whole-body balance.
- Increases mobility and flexibility.
- Increases strength and stability.
- Builds coordination and balance.
- Promotes healthy joint alignment and increased body awareness.
- Relives stress and tension and increased well-being.
Pilates lays the foundation of all other movement. Whatever age, gender or fitness level you are, the Pilates method creates the strength, flexibility, alignment and whole-body balance you need to do whatever it is you want to do!
“Change happens through movement and movement heals.”
~ Joseph Pilates
Charlotte has always loved to move. This led her into sports initially and later into Physical Theatre, but injury stopped her in her tracks and made her seriously consider what it was she was doing wrong! Keen to recover and regain confidence in her body, she began practicing Pilates regularly in 2013 and in 2016 she began her year-long training with one of the UK’s preeminent Pilates Teachers, Anoushka Boone. Charlotte is a Certified IPTA Mat Pilates Teacher with a Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Pilates.
Charlotte enjoys teaching a flowing class grounded in precision and awareness. She has a deep appreciation of the Classical repertoire, but also loves to build mobility and strength using the Contemporary Pilates movements. Charlotte teaches through a combination of demonstration, verbal and hands-on cueing, as well as imagery.
